Let us all welcome Supreme Court verdict

Today is red letter in history of Independent India. The communal tensions build up since hundreds of years due to dispute on Ram Janmabhoomi has been reached its finality today. Supreme Court delivered its judgement on the present dispute hanging since 70 years. All 130 billion people are keenly watching how the dispute will be resolved. That muhurat has come and Supreme Court 5 judge bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi delivered 1045 page judgement.

Supreme Court has dealt with point by point raised by petitioners in the course of arguments. It clarifies on vital matters. At the same time, the judgement is specific without any ambiguity. First of all, the judgement is unanimous which itself gives more respectability in the eyes of public. It clarifies that faith and belief will not decide the fate of civil suit. But it may be an indicator. At the same time it opined that Sunni Wakf Board did not produce any evidence that the title belongs to them. In addition, Supreme Court cited ASI findings to prove that Babri Masjid did not construct on vacant land. There was a 12th century temple which is non-islamic in nature. At the same time, no Hindu organisation also did not produce evidence to the ownership of the title.

However, Supreme Court placed the facts  that worship is taking place at outer courtyard as well as inner court yard since 1949 but Muslims are not conducting any Namaz at the site since long time. Though Sunni Wakf Board possessed the Babri Masjid building, it is not used for prayer purposes all these years. Supreme Court weighed this practice of worship as one of the fundamental reason for handing over the site to Hindus. At the same time, the demolition of Babri Masjid illegally should be considered into account and alternative site of 5 acres should be provided to Sunni Wakf Board.

Supreme Court did not consider Nirmohi Akhara priestly rights but advised Government to accommodate their representative in Trust to be created for the construction of temple. Similarly, it did not recognise the right exclusively to Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas on disputed inner courtyard but its right on outer courtyard is established. However, entire land will be handed over to Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas and they will be accommodated in the Trust Board.

It seems that Supreme Court decided the status of different organisations and ultimately gave all powers to Government of India to create a Trust instead of any organisation. It is a wise decision. Supreme Court and its judges will be remembered in the history for settling the age old dispute. Though there are news appearing that some aggrieved parties may file review petition, chances of its consideration are not bright. This unanimous judgement settles the unanswered questions in the minds of many people. At the same time, what will happen to the criminal cases lodged against those who demolished the Babri Masjid? In the light of this judgement, severity of those cases may be lessened, observers felt.

Now, it is high time to look into it without any emotions. Let the nation accepts the verdict without claiming winners or losers. As this is settled,  now communal harmony should be maintained at all costs. Let us welcome the verdict .
